24-year-old Black Trans Woman Duval Princess Fatally Shot in Jacksonville, Florida
On the second day of 2022, a second Black trans woman has died in ‘suspicious’ circumstances.
Her name was The Duval Princess. She was 24 years old, born and raised in Jacksonville. She was the oldest of 10 children and served as a parental figure to her younger siblings.
Initial reporting misgendered Duval. Friends reached out to the TransGriot blog to ensure she was properly identified.
On January 2nd at 2:20a.m. Jacksonville Sheriff officers arrived on the scene at 4929 Skyway Dr, Jacksonville, FL 32246 (Ceil Apartments on Skyway Drive) after receiving a call that a victim of a car accident was laying in the parking lot of the apartments. Upon arrival officers found the victim unresponsive near a parked vehicle and was rushed to a near by hospital where the victim passed.
Pending the autopsy report, police suspected foul play. And they were right as a postmortem evaluation indicated the presence of fatal gunshot wounds.
As police continue to investigate, JSO is looking for surveillance videos or witnesses that can provide information on how the individual died.
