Today is the day we celebrate coming out — being more open about our LGBTQIA+ identities AND encouraging folx still “in the closet” to take their own steps. Sharing our own unique stories is an essential tool to offer support. In honor of that reality, I am offering this list of 318+ coming out stories from the #AMPLIFY project.
These are the questions we ask about coming out experiences:
Please describe your coming out experience. Where did you find support? What challenges did you face? How would you describe yourself NOW in terms of “being out”?
You will read stories from folx who came out in the 1960’s to 2020. They came out in small, careful steps or burst out with vigor, both of which are perfectly legitimate experiences. Some had multiple comings out as their understanding of their identity expanded. And some are still not out.
