Black Trans Woman Jasmine ‘Star’ Mack, 36, Killed in Washington DC

Her name is Jasmine Star Mack. She was 36-years-old, Black, and a trans woman. She may have been homeless. She died from a stab wound on the same day (night) that the 118th Congress was sworn into office. And that is all that we know right now about the first victim of fatal anti-trans violence in the United States in 2023.

The DC Metropolitan Police provide the details of her death.

Her body was found on Saturday, January 7, 2023, in the 2000 block of Gallaudet Street, Northeast, a neighborhood referred to as Ivy City.

At approximately 3:00 am, members of the Fifth District were flagged down at the listed location for a check on the welfare. Upon arrival, the members located an adult victim suffering from an apparent stab wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life, the victim remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
