Shooting Death of Young Latina Trans Woman Brings 2020 Toll to 44 Known Deaths
A Latina transgender woman in her early 20’s was shot to death on December 26 in the Bronx borough of New York City. She was shot in the back of her head and died at the scene according to officers responding to the 911 call.
Her name was Alexandria Winchester. The Ali Forney Center in New York announced her death and confirmed she was a participant in their programming. There are few details about Alexandria’s life as of yet. Some reports say she was 20, others 24. The mainstream media coverage misgenders her and is also vague about her age.
Alexandria’s life mattered. Obviously, the Ali Forney Center has more details on her than they can publicly share and we have to trust their lead. They are planning a memorial. It feels wrong to not have a photo or some simple details on her life. We just know a few bits of her identity and that her life was stolen by a seemingly execution style violence.
